A bit of history:
When I first started The Community Music Space in the fall of 2009 I had one room and a handful of students. I taught lessons, organized classes, and put on performances by musicians I met in the region. I poured my energy into CMS, teaching lessons, producing shows, and building teaching platforms based on my 20 plus years as a professional musician – and the school grew! Today we occupy three rooms in the historic Chocolate Factory, with a full recording studio, performances space, and five incredible faculty members. We offer classes that range from vocal groups and ensembles for kids and teens, to acting and improv classes for adults. Our students come from many different backgrounds, some looking to make a life in music, others simply to put music in their life. For each person our goal is to find a way to make space and to create opportunities to learn, study, or simply hang out and talk about their favorite band. Our staff has a genuine respect for each other and for our students, and it shows in the energy we see everyday we come to work.
Enter Fractured Atlas!
We have recently joined forces with a non-profit organization called Fractured Atlas that enables us to accept tax deductible donations. Fractured Atlas is a 501(c)(3) that empowers artists, arts organizations, and other cultural sector stakeholders by eliminating practical barriers to artistic expression. Put simply, this means they understand that small for-profit arts organizations, like CMS, play an important role in creating a thriving creative culture in any community.
For The Community Music Space that means we are now able to accept tax deductible donations that will enable motivated and engaged students an opportunity to study and learn at our space. It will also help our teachers stay busy teaching, and to hopefully earn a sustainable income.
