Beginning Guitar Class

Did you know that if you can master a handful of chords you can learn hundreds of songs? We will make the learning easy and fun as we walk through the fundamentals of the guitar. The Intro to Guitar class is designed for teens and adults to learn in a group environment. These classes are a fun and engaging way to learn the fundamentals of the guitar.

6 week class
Ages 14 and up
5:30-6:30pm

Class will be held at Community Music Space, Kingston at the Art Society of Kingston

Old Time String Band

The Old Time String Brigade is a new group that meets at Community Music Space to share songs from the age of music when recording was done on a wax cylinder or not at all. Prior to each session we will discuss a few tunes to play, post the chords and melodies on our website, and then arrange and play them down at the session.

Band Lab: Hudson Valley Rocks!

Join The Hudson Valley Rocks band and perform songs from some of the most influential artists who called the Hudson Valley home. From Dylan and The Band, to Bowie and Van Morrison, We'll cover a range of classic tunes. The class will focus on ensemble playing, with an emphasis on collaboration, technique, and having fun!

This group is designed for adults looking to play music in a community band environment. Whether you're picking up your instrument after years or looking to try something new, this class offers a supportive and engaging space to make music together.

Class Details:

  • Duration: 8 weeks

  • Schedule: Thursdays, 7-8:30pm

  • Location: Community Music Space, Kingston, NY

  • Instructor: Josh Colow

Who Should Join:

  • Adults with basic proficiency in their instrument (all instruments welcome)

  • Those interested in playing folk, country, blues, and rock

  • Musicians looking for a community-oriented music experience

For many people, improvising can seem intimidating. However, we all improvise daily, whether in writing, cooking, or conversing with friends. In music, developing a set of tools can unlock the door to the captivating world of improvisation.

In this workshop, we will explore essential musical fundamentals of improvisation like rhythm, melody, and repetition to learn to play spontaneously. Additionally, we will study the evolution of improvisation in American music and learn essential tools for unlocking your creative potential.

No matter which instrument you play, (or if you don’t even play an instrument) you will learn valuable information in this fun and engaging workshop!

Open to beginners and intermediate players. Everyone is welcome, however, a basic ability to play an instrument is recommended.
