FINDING YOUR VOICE: Essential Elements of Singing

Learning to sing is a practice of self discovery.

More than anything, singing can help you learn more about yourself, how you breathe, how you stand, the sounds you use to express yourself. In this class, you will learn new ways to express yourself, new approaches to breathing, posture, and resonance.

At the end of this 2 hour workshop you will have a solid understanding of fundamental vocal techniques, learn how to find and develop your true authentic voice, and develop a deeper understanding of how singing can help you learn more about yourself.

Did you know that if you can master a handful of chords you can learn hundreds of songs? We will make the learning easy and fun as we walk through the fundamentals of the guitar. The Intro to Guitar class is designed for teens and adults to learn in a group environment. These classes are a fun and engaging way to learn the fundamentals of the guitar.

Learn to Jam in the Improv ensemble!

Improvising music can feel daunting, but it’s something we all do every day—whether in conversation, cooking, or finding a new route home. Just as with these daily improvisations, music has its own set of tools to help you unlock creativity and join in the joy of group jamming.

In this ensemble, we’ll explore the building blocks of improvisation—rhythm, melody, repetition, and interaction.

You’ll learn to play spontaneously, work with others in a group setting, and gain insights into how improvisation has shaped American music. Through hands-on activities, listening exercises, and creative exploration, you'll develop confidence to express yourself musically.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Techniques to start improvising, even if it’s your first time

  • The role of rhythm, melody, and dynamics in creating engaging solos

  • Listening and responding in a group environment

  • The history and evolution of improvisation in jazz, blues, and other American music genres

This workshop is open to beginners and intermediate players of all instruments, including vocalists. While everyone is welcome, a basic ability to play an instrument (or sing) is recommended.

Join us for a fun and engaging journey into the art of improvisation and discover how to connect with others through music!

Our Beginner Jazz Combo is the perfect place for instrumentalists and vocalists to explore a true American art form in a supportive, fun group environment. Whether you're new to jazz or looking to sharpen your skills, this program will guide you through classic jazz repertoire while teaching you the fundamentals of improvisation and ensemble playing.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Essential jazz repertoire and its historical context

  • The foundations of swing rhythm and group dynamics

  • How to build confidence as a soloist through improvisation

  • Collaboration and communication in a jazz ensemble

This combo is designed for students with at least one year of experience on their instrument or voice. With engaging rehearsals and plenty of opportunities to jam, you’ll develop a deeper connection to jazz and grow as a musician.

From Dylan and The Band, to Bowie and Van Morrison, We'll cover a range of classic tunes. The class will focus on ensemble playing, with an emphasis on collaboration, technique, and having fun!

This group is designed for adults looking to play music in a community band environment. Whether you're picking up your instrument after years or looking to try something new, this class offers a supportive and engaging space to make music together.

UNDERSTANDING MUSIC: Making Music Theory Fun!

Understanding How Music Works can actually be fun!

Music is a Language, the oldest and most universal language in the world. Yet for many of us, the idea of learning traditional Music Theory can be daunting and overwhelming.

Join us, as we demystify how music works. We’ll break down the fundamentals of western music including melody, harmony, chord progressions, rhythmic foundations, and song structures.

We will answer questions like: Why is an octave called and octave? What’s up with the black and white keys? What is the circle of fifths and why does it matter?

Along the way, we’ll listen to a LOT of music, have fascinating conversations, and generally have a blast.

In the end, you will walk away with a deeper understanding of how music works and how you can incorporate it into the music you make.

This class is great for beginners and seasoned musicians as well.

'Ol factory Brass Band

Attention brass, woodwinds, and drummers!

The 'Ol Factory brass band is back!

This band will meets weekly learning old school jams as well as recognizable modern tunes in Preparation for our December march in the legendary SinterKlaass parade in Rhinebeck!

This group is a great opportunity for teens and adults to get an opportunity to play in a upbeat group setting.

Participants should have a good foundation on their instrument, be open to playing and learning by ear, and be able to play while walking.

Rhythm Section Workshop

Join us for this exciting opportunity to dive into the art of the Rhythm section. In this two part workshop, bassist Jesse Murphy and drummer Evan Garcia-Renart will help decipher the essential elements of a solid rhythm section. We will discuss how to lock into a groove and learn how  to interact with each other harmonically and rhythmically. Regardless of what instrument you play, this workshop will teach deepen your understanding of the essential foundations of any good band. There will be discussion, opportunity to play in your own section, and a chance to hear Jesse and Evan cut loose a bit as well.
